Lamma Island, The End of Summer

After finishing all my mid-term examination, no matter the grade is excellent or intolerant, I decide to take a short domestic travel on the weekend.

I remember that I saw an advitisement when I was very young, and it was an advertisement about the geological park in Hong Kong, noticing every visitor to be considerate and take care of the nature. Every time I saw the advertisement, I always told my father that I really want to go to the place demonstrated in the screen of the television, and my dad always said:

"Oh, that's the Lamma Island. If you want to go to there, you have to take a boat. I will bring you there if I got time."

Then I was waiting the promise to be achieved for approximately 10 years. Unfortunately, until the day I set off, my father was still quite busy and the promise was still something empty.

So I got up at 9am and had a quick breakfast in the restaurant of the HKUST, then I took the MTR to the North Point on Hong Kong Island, taking the bus to the port in the South District in the final.

Compared to the callous cosmpolitan metroplis distriputed in the Kowloon peninsula and Hong Kong Island, South District was a much more conspicuous and dynamic place. The sunshine was sufficient and there were less towers and mansions compared to the downtown district. The fisherman were quite busy on running their business in the sea-food market and the young and the old were having their great time in the park just near the shore. The wind left whisper in the air and ships shift slowly from somewhere far and all these things constitute the dazy Sunday.

It took 30 minutes travelling from the Aberdeen to the Lamma Island, I got off the ship in advance so I arrived in a small village at the north of the Island. Then I just walked along the coastline until seeing the end of the road. There was nothing needing complaint, it was just gorgeous, but as I was still able to see the contour of the city, I chose to walk farer to the south.

The village houses distriputed ramdomly along the path on the island, I was quite jealous that people living here were able to live in these big houses. The sunshine just seep the cranny of the leaf and made many small bright spots on the ground. It was not too hot walking under the trees though the temperature was over 26 celsius that day. As I walked deeper, I saw a small grassland in the forest, that remind me of some melancholy and redolent days in my secondary school, or the time earlier.

I saw a small stand selling the Tofu-Fa in the middle way. I suppose it will be quite expensive as they monololy all the business in this area, but actually no. The price was quite fair and the Tofu-Fa's texture was quite smooth and they used honey instead of regular sugar for seasoning, which I think was a plus.

When I arrived the middle part of the Island, there was a beach, and a large electricity power station was just next to it. There were people, mostly were westerners, lying above the sand enjoying the sun bath. There were also a lot of dogs, it was very classic to see the dogs being the fellow of children in the western families.

There was an another beach not far from the power station. What was quite interesting was that there were no the flag of the People's Republic of China nor the flag of HKSAR. Instead, they hang up the flag of the Deutschland. And that made sense, as I saw a lot of face of white people from the time I arrived in the island. But I was not sure whether they all came from Deustchland. Some of them were able to speak simple Cantonese, which I thought they were quite friendly as the said "Nei Ho (hello in Cantonese)" to every people they met on the Island.

I walked to the highest position of the Island and I was able to see the full view of the Pacific Ocean. The sky was as clear as the mirror, the shape of the clouds was wide, and the sea extended infinitely to the distant place. There were only few bunch of grass and some stone on the peak of the hill, the cool wind blowed sometimes, cooling down the great heat of summer, and announcing the short-term fall of Hong Kong.

Everything was perfect, but I was a bit disappointed. As my heart was like the few stones on the peak, the cool wind, the clear sky, the spacious ocean, all the things were gorgeous, but they looked quite lonely.

However, loneliness was the destiny to some of the people, at least it was the destiny to me. All I can do is trying to reconcilliate with it, though I really wish there could be a person who was standing by my side. But I still love the Sea and the Great Sky, as these are the place where people who love freedom and art will go to.

  3. Small islands always bring some relaxing, peace, and nostalgia feelings.

I love islands, as I love sitting beside the beach, eating ice, and diving into the gloomy loneliness with the sea wind.
